March is internationally known as the month to celebrate women. To get in on the fun, we’re shining a much-deserved spotlight on AIM’s President & Claims Counsel Sharon Stuart, as well as sharing some of our favorite inspirational quotes and words of wisdom from our all-female staff.
No matter how you choose to celebrate, we encourage you to lead by example. Take your female colleagues with you everywhere. Give your female colleagues face time with your clients. Allow them to get all the practical experience they can. Surround yourself with women who support each other, allow others to shine, and who share in your good news. Success takes a lot of positive energy to achieve and maintain – let’s help each other do that!
As President of AIM, Sharon Stuart manages the company’s operations for the benefit of our insureds, who are our owners.
She also serves as Claims Counsel, overseeing the handling of claims for our insureds. In addition to serving as President and Claims Counsel for AIM, Sharon practices law, is a Trustee of Samford University, and is the President-Elect of the Birmingham Bar Association.
Of all the professional accolades in Sharon’s career portfolio, there are several she holds in the highest regard.
“It is such an honor to be appointed or elected by your peers to a leadership position. I am most proud of serving as President-Elect of the Birmingham Bar currently, serving as President of the Alabama Defense Lawyers Association (2017-2018) and serving as a Trustee of Samford University.”
While enthusiastically focused on her multiple commitments, she does enjoy time with her family.
“I love spending time with my husband, Tom. We love it when our kids, Gracie and Matt, who are grown, come home to visit. We love going to the lake, doing yoga, and taking walks with our dog Devereaux. I am blessed that I’m still able to spend time with my mom, who is 94. She is precious. I teach an adult Sunday School class, which is very special to me. I read a lot, but mostly on Audible these days, while I’m driving. Someday I will start playing golf and the piano again.”
To all women just starting out or even starting over, Sharon shares her advice:
“Do not limit yourself or let anyone else limit you. My dad told me I could be whatever I wanted to be – and I never doubted him. And don’t be fooled into thinking you have to go to college. The world needs gifted people to serve in all sorts of capacities. Some of the most successful women did not go to college but have great entrepreneurial spirit and ideas. But whatever you decide to do, give it 110%. As Abe Lincoln said, ‘Whatever you are, be a good one.’”
