In response to predicted severe weather conditions, the Tenth Judicial Circuit of Alabama, covering Jefferson County, has issued Administrative Order No. AO-2025-01, temporarily closing courts and clerk offices in the Birmingham and Bessemer Divisions on Friday, January 10, 2025. The courts will resume normal operations on Monday, January 13, 2025, at 8:00 a.m.
This decision was made to prioritize the health, safety, and welfare of court employees and the public. The National Weather Service forecasts significant inclement weather that could affect travel and safety throughout the region.
What This Closure Means:
Unified Judicial System Courts – All Circuit and District Courts in Jefferson County will be closed.
Clerk’s Offices – While the offices will generally be closed, sufficient staff will remain available to handle emergency matters, both civil and criminal, at the discretion of the Circuit Clerks.
Scheduled Hearings – Attorneys and parties with hearings scheduled for January 10, 2025, are advised to contact their assigned judges for further instructions or rescheduling.
Emergency Procedures
For urgent legal matters, the Circuit Clerks’ offices will ensure minimal staff are on-site to address emergencies. However, the general public is encouraged to stay home and avoid unnecessary travel during the hazardous weather conditions.
