Do you know the difference between phishing, smishing, and vishing attacks?
Phishing is the most common attack method deployed against small businesses such as law firms. These email attacks, when successful, allow cyber criminals to engage in social engineering schemes as well as launch ransomware, which can turn an extortion demand into a data breach.
Smishing is the fraudulent practice of sending text messages purporting to be from reputable companies in order to induce individuals to reveal personal information, such as passwords or credit card numbers. Similarly, vishing is the fraudulent practice of making phone calls or leaving voice mails for the same purpose.
It’s so important to train yourself and your law firm staff on how to be alert to these threats and what to look for to prevent a breach of your systems.
